GREER, S.C. — A work crew hit a water main Wednesday afternoon near a busy Greer crossroads, and drivers were asked to slow down and steer carefully around the repair scene.

Officials said the pipe that a contractor damaged is a 10-inch line running close to where Suber Road meets Brushy Creek Road. The pipe belongs to Greer CPW, the municipally owned utility providing water, sewer, natural gas, and broadband to Greer.

The good news for households on the line: the utility does not expect customers to lose water service, and no boil water advisory is planned for now.

Traffic around the break was slowed while crews worked, but all lanes had reopened by Wednesday evening. Officials have not said what the contractor was working on when the line was struck or how long permanent repairs will take.

Residents who notice low pressure or discolored water can report it to Greer CPW, which serves the city from regional Upstate reservoirs.
