Asheville, NC – Fletcher Abee, a prominent member of the UNC Asheville men’s basketball team, has been recognized for his academic excellence for the third consecutive year by being named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Scholar Athlete Team. The announcement was made on May 7, 2025, highlighting Abee’s dual commitment to his studies and sports.

Abee stands out as the only player from the Big South Conference to receive this prestigious honor three times. His impressive academic record includes a remarkable GPA of 3.83 while majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. His achievements in academics were further acknowledged when he was named the Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for the past season.

Throughout his collegiate career, Abee has demonstrated his academic prowess by being a three-time member of the Big South All-Academic Team and earning recognition as a three-time College Sports Communicators All-District member. His performance has also earned him a place on the NABC Honors Court twice, underscoring his commitment to balancing athletics and academics.

In his final season with the Bulldogs, Abee made substantial contributions on the basketball court, starting and participating in 30 games out of Asheville’s 32. His offensive skills were on full display as he scored a total of 304 points, secured 54 rebounds, and distributed 36 assists throughout the season. Notably, Abee led the Big South Conference and ranked 11th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage, achieving an impressive rate of 43.4%.

Abee’s performance peaked with a season-high of 27 points during a game against Central Arkansas, where he demonstrated his sharpshooting ability by sinking 9 out of 19 shots from beyond the arc. Throughout his career, he recorded his 300th career 3-pointer in a match against UNC Wilmington and concluded his college career with a total of 341 3-pointers, ranking 6th in program history for most career triples.
