Asheville – Asheville Police have arrested a local man for allegedly firing a gun during a heated argument on Friday evening. The suspect, Kennith Wayen Hubert, 46, was taken into custody following the incident in the 300 block of Riverside Drive at approximately 6:37 p.m. Officers responding to the scene discovered a loaded revolver and multiple shell casings.

Hubert reportedly discharged his firearm at least four times during the confrontation. Fortunately, no individuals were injured, but there was damage to property. Hubert has been charged with discharging a firearm within city limits and causing injury to personal property. He was subsequently booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility, where he is being held on a secured bond of $1,000.

In a separate incident, another arrest was made on June 2. Brandon Norrelle Miller was apprehended for gun and drug-related offenses. Officers encountered Miller while conducting routine patrols in the 100 block of Atkinson Street on May 31. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of an AR pistol, along with additional firearms and illegal drugs. Miller has been charged accordingly and booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility with a bond set at $25,000.

Earlier this month, Asheville Police conducted an operation that led to the arrest of three individuals on May 2, in response to rising community concerns surrounding crime. The operation focused on issues such as robberies, assaults, the illegal possession of firearms, and drug activity. Authorities seized significant quantities of drugs and firearms during this operation, which included:

  • 199.27 grams of fentanyl
  • $943.70 in cash
  • Seven firearms, including one that was reported stolen
  • A stolen dirt bike

Among those arrested was a man with the last name Craig, who is eligible for no bond per magistrate rulings. The other two suspects arrested in this operation, Damion Keire Smith Jr. and Damon Tyriq Smith Jr., were both released following their arrests. Damion received a $10,000 secured bond, while Damon was granted release based on a written promise to appear before a magistrate.

The Asheville Police Department has indicated that the investigation is ongoing and may lead to further charges related to drug and firearm possession. Authorities are encouraging community members to assist in the fight against illegal activities by reporting any suspicious behavior. Tips can be submitted via a dedicated phone line at (828) 252-1110 or through the TIP2APD app for anonymous reporting.

The recent string of arrests highlights the ongoing issues of firearm-related incidents and drug activity in Asheville, underlining the need for community vigilance and cooperation with local law enforcement to enhance public safety.
