Asheville, NC – Driver Dies in Rollover Crash Involving Truck Hauling Hay Bales on I-240

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a deadly rollover crash that occurred on Sunday morning, June 15, on Interstate 240 West. The accident, which involved a 2012 Ford pickup truck towing a trailer of hay bales, took place near Exit 1B at approximately 11:23 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, the truck was driven by Dustin Lee Hensley, a 34-year-old man. He was traveling westbound on I-240 when he lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the truck and its trailer rolling over. Hensley was accompanied by a passenger at the time of the incident.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported both Hensley and the passenger to Mission Hospital. Unfortunately, Hensley succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, while the passenger sustained only minor injuries.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing, as police seek to determine the exact cause of the loss of control that led to the rollover. I-240 West was closed for approximately one hour while officials worked on the scene, ensuring the safety of both the responders and the public.

The Asheville Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward. They can be contacted at (828) 252-1110. Additionally, anonymous tips are welcome via text by sending TIP2APD to 847411, or through the TIP2APD smartphone app.

Crash Details and Response

The tragic incident highlights concerns around vehicle safety, especially for those towing trailers. It is critical for drivers to maintain control of their vehicles, particularly when transporting heavy loads such as hay bales, which can impact stability and maneuverability.

The response by local emergency services was prompt, allowing for a swift transfer of both individuals involved to the hospital. However, the loss of life in this accident is a stark reminder of the dangers present on the road.

Background Context

Roll-over accidents involving trucks can often have severe consequences, especially when heavier loads are involved. While the exact factors leading to the loss of control in this incident remain under investigation, factors such as speed, weather conditions, and driver experience are common considerations in similar cases.

The Asheville community is mourning the loss of Dustin Hensley, as family and friends are left to process the tragic turn of events. As investigations continue, officials emphasize the importance of road safety and vehicle handling, particularly when towing trailers.

This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible while on the road, emphasizing that one moment of inattention can drastically alter lives.
