Asheville, North Carolina – The Asheville Tourists triumphed over the Brooklyn Cyclones with a score of 12-6 in a high-scoring game held on May 11, 2025, at McCormick Field. This victory marked a crucial improvement for the Tourists, enhancing their season record to 15 wins and 18 losses, while the Cyclones’ record improved to 20 wins and 12 losses.

Brooklyn Cyclones opened the game with a powerful strike, as center fielder Eli Serrano III blasted a solo home run on the third pitch, marking his fifth home run of the season and the second in the series. Brooklyn continued to build their early lead when first baseman Jacob Reimer followed up with a two-run homer, bringing the Cyclones ahead 3-0 in the first inning.

The Asheville Tourists were quick to respond, as catcher Walker Janek hit a double, allowing shortstop Cristian González to bring home a run. Left fielder Kenni Gómez then stepped up to the plate, hitting a double that shrank Asheville’s deficit to just one run. The first inning concluded with first baseman Will Bush contributing a sacrifice fly, allowing Asheville to tie the game at 3-3.

In the second inning, the Tourists took command of the game with a three-run home run from right fielder Joseph Sullivan after Tyler Whitaker was hit by a pitch and Chase Jaworsky had singled. This marked Sullivan’s seventh home run of the season and his second this week, putting Asheville ahead 6-3. The Tourists continued to extend their lead in the fifth inning, capitalizing on walks and a single from third baseman Trevor Austin, resulting in Asheville scoring multiple runs. Janek contributed a sacrifice fly during this inning, bringing Asheville’s lead to a commanding 10-3.

The Cyclones managed to put points on the board again in the sixth inning, with another two-run home run from catcher Chris Suero, marking his sixth home run of the season and tying him for the team lead. However, Asheville responded in the eighth inning with two more runs driven in by a triple from Sullivan and another sacrifice fly from González, ultimately sealing the game at 12-6.

On the pitching side, right-handed pitcher Joel Díaz suffered the loss for Brooklyn, allowing six runs over just 2.0-plus innings pitched. In contrast, Asheville’s right-handed pitcher Alain Peña secured the win, allowing three runs across 5.0 innings of work.

As the Cyclones prepare for their next matchup, they are set to face the Winston-Salem Dash on May 12, 2025. Neither team has disclosed the starting pitchers for this upcoming game, which is scheduled to commence at 6:40 p.m. ET at Maimonides Park.

This game highlighted the offensive prowess of both teams, but it was the Tourists who demonstrated a stronger performance overall. With several players contributing key hits and runs, Asheville is eagerly looking forward to their next challenge as they continue the season.
