The collision involved two trucks, a 2008 Ford F-250 and a 2021 Ford F-450, both towing trailers. Carlos Alfredo Amaya-Segovia, the driver of the F-250, experienced a mechanical failure while traveling eastbound and subsequently pulled over to the right shoulder. While outside of his vehicle, Amaya-Segovia was struck by the oncoming F-450, which attempted to change lanes.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Amaya-Segovia succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. Authorities from the Asheville Police Department confirmed that his next of kin have been notified regarding his passing.
