Asheville, NC – Betty Vizine, a beloved matriarch known for her love of family and life, passed away peacefully at her home in Asheville on June 13, 2025, at the age of 89. Following her death, she leaves behind cherished memories and a tight-knit family that honors her legacy.
Born in NuMine, Pennsylvania, in 1935 to Delmont and Jean McMasters, Betty exhibited a strong sense of community and kinship from a young age. She graduated from Shannock Valley High School in Rural Valley, PA, in 1953, setting the foundation for a life dedicated to family and service.
In 1955, Betty relocated to Jamestown, NY, where she met her future husband, Charles Vizine. The couple shared a deep connection through their mutual interests in dancing, theater, and hosting large family gatherings. This passion for bringing family together underscored Betty’s role as the heart of her family.
Known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, Betty created countless memorable meals that featured prominently during family events. Her love for family extended to her hobbies as well, including church activities, reading, and traveling with her husband.
Professionally, Betty made a name for herself working at various organizations during her career, including Western Union, the Telephone Company in Jamestown, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Belk Store Services in Charlotte, NC. In retirement, she found fulfillment volunteering at the Blumenthal Performing Arts in Charlotte, showcasing her passion for the arts.
Betty is survived by her two children, Gregory Vizine of Charlotte, NC, and Pamela Vizine Siekman of Asheville, NC, as well as her granddaughter, Carly Vizine, from Charlotte, NC, and her son-in-law, Tom Siekman, of Asheville. As the last aunt on the Vizine side of the family, Betty’s passing signifies the end of an era that was marked by longstanding family traditions and connections.
She was preceded in death by her brother Richard McMasters from Jamestown, NY, alongside her husband Charles, who passed away on the same date, June 13, in 2003. The couple shared a unique bond, both departing the world on the same day, approximately 22 years apart, around 5 AM.
Betty’s final resting place will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Jamestown, NY, where she will join her husband in Soldiers Circle, a comforting continuation of their life together in remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in memory of Betty Vizine to the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, a cause that reflects her commitment to community and giving back.
