Betty was a cherished member of her community, both for her decades of teaching at Pisgah Elementary School and her lifelong commitment to her church, where she served as a pianist and Sunday School teacher.
Born in Asheville, NC, Betty was one of twelve children to Roy J. Morris and Fontella House Morris. She dedicated her life to education and her faith, having spent her early years in Western North Carolina before eventually settling down in Candler. Following the death of her husband, the Rev. Manson Warren, she continued to actively participate in church services, playing the piano well into her later years.
Betty’s contributions to the community extended far beyond her work as a music educator. Known for her caring nature, she had a unique ability to make her students feel valued and appreciated. It was noted that two of her former students notably preached at her husband’s funeral, indicating the profound impact she had on the lives of those she taught.
In addition to her educational endeavors, Betty had a passion for Gospel Music and often gathered family and friends around her piano to share in singing. Her artistic talents were also evident in her love for painting nature scenes, capturing the beauty of Western North Carolina.
Her family includes three sons: Andy Warren (Rhonda), Michael Warren (Teresa), and David Warren (Susie), along with two daughters, Renee Sinkovich (Joe) and Cheyenne Warren. Betty is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband and five sisters: Louise Morris Fisher, Pauline Morris McHone, Kathleen Morris Dickerson, Helen Morris Ward, and Clara Mae Morris Edwards, as well as four brothers: James Ferrell Morris, LeRoy Morris, Gordon Morris, and Phillip Morris.
The funeral for Betty Lou Morris Warren will take place on June 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Patton Ave. Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. A family visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service, allowing attendees to pay their respects. Following the funeral, burial will occur at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church.
