News Summary

The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team is set to start their 2025 spring season with two matches this weekend. Facing UNC Asheville and Lee University, the team is determined to improve upon their challenging previous season. Seniors Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall are expected to lead the team to victory. Fans are encouraged to show support as the Mocs aim for success in their competitive opener.

Chattanooga Preps for Exciting Tennis Season

Chattanooga is buzzing with excitement as the Mocs women’s tennis team gears up to kick off their 2025 spring season with two thrilling matches this weekend! Starting on Sunday, the Mocs will face off against UNC Asheville, setting the stage for a competitive start at the courts. The following day, the team will return home to take on Lee University, with a scheduled match set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center located at 500 Dodds Ave. on the McCallie School campus.

Looking Forward After a Tough Season

After wrapping up a challenging 2024 season, the Mocs are determined to make significant strides this year. With eyes on improvement and a renewed commitment to excellence, the team is counting on its veteran seniors, Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall, to play pivotal roles in their quest for victory. This dynamic pair formed a strong partnership at the No. 1 doubles position last season, finishing with an impressive 14-6 record overall, which included a respectable 4-3 in Southern Conference play.

Facing Strong Competitors

On the first day of the season, the Mocs will challenge the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, a team that finished the 2024 season on a high note with a fantastic 16-4 overall record. The Bulldogs were a force to be reckoned with in the Big South Conference, completing a perfect 5-0 run in regular-season matches. They capped off their successful season by clinching the Big South Tournament title, defeating the No. 2 seed, Charleston Southern. In their last encounter on February 10, 2024, UNC Asheville narrowly triumphed over Chattanooga with a 4-3 victory, setting the stage for what promises to be another nail-biter this weekend.

On the other hand, Chattanooga’s second opponent, Lee University, is part of the NCAA Division II and plays in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). The Flames wrapped up the 2024 season with a 9-7 overall record but faced some challenges in-conference play, finishing 4-6. Notably, Lee University is off to a good start this 2025 season with a 1-0 record after securing a win over Cumberland in their opening match. However, it’s important to note that the match against the Mocs will be classified as an exhibition, which means it won’t officially count against Lee’s record. This gives both teams a unique opportunity to test their strategies and skill in a friendly environment.

Upcoming Matches to Watch For

After this weekend, the Mocs will quickly shift gears, traveling to Murfreesboro, TN, for even more action. They will face Louisville on January 25, and shortly thereafter, they’ll take on Middle Tennessee on January 26, ensuring that the season starts with an adrenaline-packed schedule.

Overall, the atmosphere surrounding the Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team is one of hope, resilience, and enthusiasm. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they navigate their way through these important opening matches. Get ready for what promises to be an exciting season filled with competitive spirit and community support!
