Since January 1, Asheville has recorded only 1.34 inches of rain, which is almost a whopping four inches below what’s normally expected at this time of year. But don’t get too comfortable just yet; a very different weather pattern is headed our way.
The Rainy Days are on the Horizon
The forecast predicts that Asheville and the surrounding areas will be in for several days of rain, with some heavy bursts expected at times. Areas located south and west of the city could see anywhere between 5 to 7 inches of rain over the next week. For residents within the French Broad River Valley—including Asheville—a downpour of about 2 to 3 inches can be anticipated. This rain could be the most significant precipitation since Hurricane Helene back in September 2024.
Flooding Concerns
While some flooding could occur, meteorologists believe it won’t reach the severity seen during Hurricane Helene, mainly because the rain is expected to spread over several days. However, it’s important for residents living near creeks and rivers—especially around the French Broad, Oconaluftee, Pigeon, and Tuckasegee Rivers—to stay prepared for possible flooding conditions.
