Asheville, NC – The UNC Asheville men’s basketball program celebrated a significant academic achievement with four players named to the 2024-25 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court. This announcement was made on July 17, 2025, marking the highest number of Honors Court recognitions for the program in a single season.

The four distinguished student-athletes recognized include Connor Dubsky, Fletcher Abee, Greg Gantt Jr., and Jemal Davis. The NABC Honors Court recognizes junior, senior, and graduate student players who excel academically, achieving a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher during the academic year.

In total, over 2,400 players from nearly 400 collegiate basketball programs received honors from the NABC, which also presented Team Academic Excellence Awards. This emphasis on academic success highlights the importance of education within the sport, a sentiment reiterated by Craig Robinson, the NABC Executive Director, who underscored education as a core value.

Among the honorees, Fletcher Abee stands out for his impressive academic record, holding a GPA of 3.83 while majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. Abee’s recognition on the Honors Court marks his third consecutive year receiving this honor. Furthermore, he was awarded the title of Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2024-25 season, reflecting his dedication both on the court and in the classroom. Abee’s performance during the season was notable; he scored 304 points, recorded 54 rebounds, and tallied 36 assists. His shooting prowess was particularly evident as he achieved a 3-point shooting percentage of 43.4%, ranking him 11th nationally. Abee’s season-high performance included 27 points against Central Arkansas, where he also matched his career-high with nine 3-pointers in a single game. Additionally, he recorded his 300th career 3-pointer during the season, finishing with a total of 341, placing him sixth on the program’s all-time list.

Greg Gantt Jr. also made a significant impact academically, marking his second consecutive year being recognized on the Honors Court. He played all 32 games for the team, starting in 27, averaging 27.4 minutes per game. Gantt’s contributions included 132 points during the season, 196 total rebounds, and 106 assists with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranked fourth in the league. Gantt averaged 6.1 rebounds per game, reflecting his solid performance throughout the season.

Jemal Davis, another Honors Court recipient, played in 31 games and started five, averaging 3.6 points per game, making valuable contributions to the team. Connor Dubsky also participated in 28 games, starting five. He averaged 4.5 points per game, totaling 125 points for the season, and his presence added depth to the roster.

The recognition of these four student-athletes underscores not only their athletic capabilities but also their commitment to academic excellence. As UNC Asheville men’s basketball continues to foster a culture of achievement both on the court and in the classroom, the program demonstrates that success extends beyond sports, placing a significant emphasis on education as a cornerstone of player development.
