Asheville, N.C. – Danny Frid has been officially hired as the new Head Men’s Soccer Coach for the University of North Carolina at Asheville. The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, by Janet R. Cone, the Director of Athletics. With this appointment, Frid becomes the ninth head coach in the history of the UNC Asheville men’s soccer program. Cone expressed her enthusiasm for Frid’s leadership style and his commitment to building meaningful relationships with student-athletes.

Frid brings a wealth of coaching experience to UNC Asheville, having most recently served as the Associate Head Coach at Missouri State University since January 2023. During his two-year tenure at Missouri State, he helped guide the team to an impressive record of 24 wins, 8 losses, and 5 draws. Under Frid’s leadership, the Bears achieved two back-to-back seasons with 12 wins and secured the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship by going undefeated in conference play during the 2024 season.

Frid played a pivotal role in leading Missouri State to its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and ninth overall. In the 2024 tournament, the team earned a national seed and a coveted first-round bye, successfully hosting a matchup against Kansas City. Frid’s coaching acumen contributed to the Bears achieving a record of 12 wins and 4 losses in his inaugural season, and the team advanced in the NCAA Tournament, winning its third game under Frid’s stewardship against Omaha in November 2023.

Before joining Missouri State, Frid was the head coach at Mid-America Christian University (MACU) from 2019 to 2022. His record at MACU was strikingly impressive, finishing with 38 wins, 3 losses, and 3 draws. Frid led MACU to a perfect Sooner Athletic Conference record of 15 wins and 0 losses during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Additionally, in 2022, the team achieved a 19-2-2 record and earned the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for the first time in the program’s history. Under his leadership, MACU secured its third consecutive SAC Tournament title in 2022. The 2021 season was particularly noteworthy, concluding with a record of 19-1-1—the most successful season in MACU’s history.

Frid began his coaching career as the top assistant at MACU in 2019 and 2020 after serving as a coach for various clubs, including Oklahoma Energy and Sporting Oklahoma since 2014. Throughout his career, he has developed numerous NAIA All-Americans and earned accolades such as the SAC Coach of the Year award in both 2021 and 2022. As a player, Frid represented Missouri State in 2011, being a significant contributor by scoring a goal that aided the team in sharing the MVC regular season title.

Originally hailing from Northamptonshire, England, Frid is not only recognized for his coaching prowess but also for his dedication to his family. He is married to Jordan, and together they have three children. Frid has expressed his keen anticipation for his new role as the head coach, voicing gratitude for the opportunity to lead and work closely with student-athletes.

A press conference for Frid’s introduction as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach will be scheduled for a later date, providing the community and media with an opportunity to learn more about his vision for the future of the program.
