Danny Frid has been named the new Head Men’s Soccer Coach for UNC Asheville, succeeding the previous coach. Frid brings extensive experience and a successful track record, previously coaching at Missouri State, where he achieved significant victories including a conference title and NCAA appearances. Janet R. Cone, the Director of Athletics at UNC Asheville, expressed confidence in Frid’s leadership, which is pivotal for the program’s future. Asheville, NC – Danny Frid has been appointed as the new Head Men’s Soccer Coach for UNC Asheville, marking a significant transition in the program’s leadership. The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, by Janet R. Cone, the Director of Athletics at UNC Asheville. Frid takes on the role as the ninth head coach in the program’s history, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the team.
Janet R. Cone expressed her enthusiasm regarding Frid’s appointment, emphasizing his strong leadership qualities and unwavering commitment to excellence. This enthusiasm highlights the program’s expectations for Frid as he steps into this pivotal role.
Before joining UNC Asheville, Frid served as the Associate Head Coach at Missouri State University, starting in January 2023. During his time with the Bears, the soccer team experienced remarkable success, achieving back-to-back 12-win seasons with an impressive two-year record of 24 wins, 8 losses, and 5 draws. Under Frid’s guidance, the Bears claimed the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship, finishing the season undefeated in conference play.
In addition to the conference title, Frid’s leadership contributed to Missouri State’s sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, as well as hosting a tournament game for the second straight year. In his inaugural season with the Bears, Frid helped the team secure a record of 12 wins, 4 losses, and 3 draws, culminating in a significant victory against Omaha in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his tenure at Missouri State, Frid was the head coach at Mid-America Christian University (MACU), where he achieved a remarkable record of 38 wins, 3 losses, and 3 draws. During his time at MACU, he led the Evangels to two conference championships in 2021 and 2022. His expertise played a pivotal role in MACU earning its first-ever NAIA Top 25 ranking and securing a tournament title. Frid’s teams displayed dominant performances, including an undefeated regular season in 2021 and a strong showing in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
Frid, originally from Northamptonshire, England, has a rich coaching background that includes serving as an assistant at MACU and holding various positions with different clubs. His contributions to the sport have resulted in the development of numerous NAIA All-Americans. His outstanding coaching ability has earned him recognition as the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in both 2021 and 2022.
In addition to his coaching accolades, Frid is also a former player for Missouri State, where he was instrumental in the team’s Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title victory during his playing career.
Danny Frid is married to Jordan Frid and they have three children. He has shared his excitement for the new role and gratitude towards the hiring committee and his family for their support.
