UNC Asheville Track and Field team achieving success at the Catamount Classic.
The UNC Asheville Track and Field team had a remarkable performance at the Catamount Classic, achieving two new school records and numerous personal bests. DaMarr Harvey excelled with silver medals in the men’s 100m and 200m finals, while the men’s 4x100m relay team set a new school record. Multiple athletes recorded personal bests, highlighting the team’s competitive spirit and talent across events. The Catamount Classic marked a significant achievement for the Bulldogs, showcasing their growth and potential as they continue the season.
Cullowhee, North Carolina – The UNC Asheville Track and Field team showcased their athletic prowess at the Catamount Classic held on April 25-26, 2025, achieving remarkable success with two new school records and six adjustments to existing records. The event served as a significant platform for the Bulldogs, with a total of 33 personal best performances recorded across various events.
DaMarr Harvey was a standout performer for the Bulldogs, earning a silver medal in the men’s 100m final with an impressive time of 10.32 seconds, which sets a new school record and ranks him 44th in Division I. In addition to his achievements in the 100m, Harvey also secured another silver medal in the men’s 200m, finishing with a time of 21.28 seconds.
Joseph Oliver contributed to the team’s success by achieving a personal best in the men’s 400m, clocking in at 48.26 seconds, which ranks No. 4 in the school’s history. In the men’s 110m hurdles, Shemarr Session, who entered the final with the top qualifying mark of 14.20 seconds, finished in second place with a personal best of 14.65 seconds, placing third in program records.
Highlighting the competitiveness of the meet, Nkosi Jeju finished fourth in the men’s 100m final, setting a personal best of 10.64 seconds, which is now ranked No. 3 on the school’s All-Time list. The men’s 4x100m relay team, consisting of Harvey, Oliver, Session, and Jeju, broke the school record with a time of 39.97 seconds, ranking 57th in Division I.
In the men’s 4x400m relay, the team of Oliver, Session, Harvey, and Christopher Owens demonstrated their strength with a season-best time of 3:15.44. On the distance side, Quinn Jacquez won the men’s 5,000m race with a time of 15:04.79, while his teammate Nate Sullivan secured third place with a season-best of 15:23.17.
The women’s events also highlighted the talent within the UNC Asheville team. Francesca Cergol finished fifth in the women’s 400m with a personal best of 57.15 seconds, marking her entry into the All-Time list at No. 3. Isabel Richardson performed well, placing third in the women’s 1,500m with a season best of 4:36.63.
In the men’s 800m, four athletes recorded personal bests, namely Jacoby Ennis, who finished 10th with a season-best of 1:55.40, followed closely by Logan Russo in 11th with 1:55.41. Tadiyos Sloan-Westmoreland clocked 1:58.24 for 20th place, while Noah Jones completed the event in 1:59.31, securing 23rd.
On the women’s side of the 800m, Ella Warren achieved a personal best of 2:19.33, placing sixth, with teammates Payton Murphy and Ashley Keazer finishing 22nd and 31st respectively.
In field events, Chad Lasher impressed with personal bests in both the men’s discus throw, where he placed fifth with 44.94 meters, and the men’s shot put, finishing 13th with 13.61 meters. Noah Henthorn also set personal bests, placing 18th in the discus throw with 37.83 meters and 12th in the shot put at 12.46 meters. Additionally, Madison Hannah recorded personal bests in the women’s shot put, hammer throw, and discus throw.
The Catamount Classic proved to be a landmark achievement for the UNC Asheville Track and Field team, demonstrating their ongoing development and solid performances as the season progresses. Many athletes contributed to the success, setting personal bests in various events, with a particular emphasis on relays and field events, indicating a bright future for the program.
