UNC Asheville Track and Field Team Sets New Records at Catamount Classic

This performance exemplified the team’s talent and dedication as they competed against numerous talented athletes.

The Bulldogs saw standout performances from DaMarr Harvey, who not only set a new school record in the men’s 100m final with a time of 10.32 seconds, but also secured a silver medal in the men’s 200m with a time of 21.28 seconds. His performance in the 100m positions him at No. 44 nationally among Division I athletes. Harvey’s feats were complemented by other impressive runs in the men’s 200m, including personal bests from teammates Ethan Acosta, who finished 27th with a time of 22.84 seconds, and Blake Hawks, finishing in 30th place at 23.24 seconds.

In addition to Harvey, Joseph Oliver achieved a personal best of 48.26 seconds in the men’s 400m event, entering the school records as the No. 4 fastest time in UNC Asheville history. Shemarr Session showcased his talent with the top qualifying mark in the men’s 110m hurdles, clocking a preliminary time of 14.20 seconds and finishing second in the final with a personal best of 14.65 seconds, which now ranks as the No. 3 mark in program history. Nkosi Jeju also shined in the men’s 100m, finishing fourth overall with a personal best time of 10.64 seconds, placing him No. 3 on the All-Time list for Asheville.

Among notable team accomplishments, the men’s 4x100m relay team comprising Harvey, Oliver, Session, and Jeju set a new school record with a time of 39.97 seconds, ranking No. 57 in Division I competition. The 4x400m relay team, which included Oliver, Session, Harvey, and Christopher Owens, also excelled, achieving a season-best time of 3:15.44.

On the distance running front, Quinn Jacquez captured first place in the men’s 5,000m race with a finishing time of 15:04.79, while teammate Nate Sullivan followed in third place at 15:23.17, recording a season best. In the women’s competition, Francesca Cergol placed fifth in the 400m with a personal best of 57.15 seconds, making a mark on the All-Time list at No. 3. Isabel Richardson secured a strong performance as well, finishing third in the women’s 1,500m with a season-best time of 4:36.63.

The meet also saw several other personal bests. Aaron Higgins registered a season best in the men’s 100m prelims with a time of 11.13 seconds. In the women’s events, Madison Hannah excelled in multiple disciplines, achieving personal bests in the shot put (8th place, 11.63 meters), hammer throw (14th place, 41.21 meters), and a fifth-place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 44.00 meters.

Chad Lasher demonstrated his potential with personal bests in both the men’s discus throw (5th) at 44.94 meters and the shot put (13th) at 13.61 meters. Jacoby Ennis led the men’s 800m with a season-best time of 1:55.40, while teammate Logan Russo closely followed with a personal best of 1:55.41. Ella Warren finished sixth in the women’s 800m, registering a personal best of 2:19.33.

Tadiyos Sloan-Westmoreland made notable strides as well, setting personal bests in both the men’s 1,500m (13th, 4:03.77) and the 800m (20th, 1:58.24). Kamryn Peeples secured a season best of 12.62 seconds in the women’s 100m prelims, finishing 13th, while Eva Weaver concluded the women’s 5,000m with a personal best time of 19:38.98, finishing in 21st position.

The Bulldogs’ impressive performance at the Catamount Classic not only showcases the depth of talent within the UNC Asheville Track and Field program but also sets a promising tone as they look ahead to upcoming competitions.
