The atmosphere at the Catamount Classic, where UNC Asheville athletes shone brightly.
The UNC Asheville Track and Field team showcased remarkable talent at the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, N.C., setting new school records and achieving 33 personal bests. DaMarr Harvey sprinted to silver in both the men’s 100m and 200m finals, while the men’s 4x100m relay team also broke a school record. Other athletes like Joseph Oliver and Quinn Jacquez delivered impressive performances, setting the stage for the upcoming Big South Outdoor Championships. The event highlighted the team’s dedication and competitive spirit.
This past weekend, the picturesque town of Cullowhee, N.C. hosted the highly competitive Catamount Classic, and boy, did the UNC Asheville Track and Field team make their mark! From April 25-26, 2025, athletes from the university dazzled spectators as they not only set new school records but also recorded an impressive number of personal bests.
The energy in the air was electric as the day unfolded at the meet. Among the highlights, DaMarr Harvey shone brighter than anyone, sprinting to a silver medal in the men’s 100m final with a jaw-dropping time of 10.32 seconds. This remarkable feat not only snatched the school record but also placed him at Nos. 44 in Division I rankings! Harvey’s talents didn’t stop there; he also secured silver in the men’s 200m final with an impressive time of 21.28 seconds.
But it didn’t end with Harvey. The men’s 4x100m relay team, made up of Harvey, Joseph Oliver, Shemarr Session, and Nkosi Jeju, blazed their way to a new school record, clocking in at 39.97 seconds while securing the No. 57 rank in Division I! Talk about a team truly thriving together!
Nkosi Jeju sprinted his way to a fourth-place finish in the men’s 100m final, with a personal best time of 10.64 seconds, landing him at No. 3 on Asheville’s all-time list. The competitiveness didn’t stop there; even teammates Ethan Acosta and Blake Hawks finished with personal bests in the 100m.
As the dust settles on the Catamount Classic, one thing is sure: the UNC Asheville Track and Field team is not just competing; they are rewriting history. Go, Bulldogs!
