ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Asheville City Council has approved a $265,000 investment from Downtown Municipal Service District sales tax revenue to support downtown businesses during upcoming construction and to replace aging seasonal decorations through a City of Asheville and Asheville Downtown Improvement District partnership.

The package includes $175,000 for a Construction Impact Mitigation Program during three major City-led construction projects and $90,000 for the purchase and installation of new seasonal decorations. ADID will manage both special initiatives.

The $175,000 construction impact mitigation program will support businesses during projects that include North Lexington Avenue Sidewalk Restoration. ADID will work with City staff and impacted stakeholders on corridor-specific approaches based on each project construction schedule and staging plans. The City will continue to lead construction management, including site safety, logistics and public information.

Funds totaling $90,000 will go to purchase and install about 100 reusable, solar-lit wreaths along downtown Asheville primary commercial corridors, complementing seasonal lighting displays at Pack Square Park and Pritchard Park.

Downtown Asheville is the compact walkable core identified in local geography notes as an early-20th-century commercial district anchored by Pack Square, and the Asheville Downtown Association is listed as the downtown managing organization. The MSD investment is aimed at keeping that core active while major public construction proceeds.

Assistant City Manager Ben Woody said the City remains responsible for delivering the projects while ADID can provide additional support to businesses navigating the disruption and help maintain an active downtown environment.
