CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets get a familiar face back Monday night as they try to stop a three-game losing streak against one of the hottest teams in the East.
Former North Carolina Tar Heel Coby White is expected to play his first game of the 2026-27 season when Charlotte hosts the Detroit Pistons in uptown Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. White sat out the first seven games while recovering from a calf strain.
Charlotte is 3-4, and the slide began last Wednesday with a loss to these same Pistons. Detroit arrives at 5-1 and will try to beat the Hornets twice in six days. For Charlotte, Monday opens a chance to reset at home after dropping close games to two of the better teams in the conference.
The Hornets are still shorthanded. Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams are both out with hamstring strains. Detroit has ruled out center Jalen Duren, an All-Star for the first time last season, with a hamstring strain, while shooter Isaiah Joe is a game-time call because of a sore hip.
Charlotte came close Saturday before falling 109-104 to Philadelphia, its second game in two nights. Grayson Allen came off the bench to score 27 points, hitting 7 of 10 tries from 3-point range, and Brandon Miller added 24 points with five 3-pointers in front of a sellout crowd of 19,533. The Hornets went up 97-90 about five minutes from the end after Miller swatted a V.J. Edgecombe layup and fed Moussa Diabate for a dunk. Philadelphia answered, and two Tyrese Maxey free throws with 1:22 remaining put the 76ers ahead to stay. Maxey finished with 38 points and Anfernee Simons scored 19 off the bench as the visitors won without resting stars LeBron James and Joel Embiid.
