Greer Sets Workshop and Forum Before Vote on Flock Cameras

Published October 29, 2026 at 9:14 am | By HERE Greer, Staff Reporter

Residents at a public meeting

GREER, S.C. — Greer residents will get two chances in November to hear about, and speak up on, the license plate reader cameras the city switched off this summer, before City Council decides whether to keep paying for them.

City leaders laid out the schedule at Tuesday night’s council meeting. A workshop on Nov. 10 will walk through what the data shows about how the Flock system has been used. Two weeks after that, a public forum will give residents the floor ahead of a council vote on the contract.

The cameras have been covered and out of use since two Greer Police Department officers were fired over the summer for misusing the plate reader system.

Concerns about the technology were already on the table this fall. At a Sept. 22 council meeting, a resident asked the city to end its contract with Flock and pass an ordinance banning automated license-plate readers, citing privacy and civil-liberty risks. Council staff said at that time a workshop would be posted during the 90-day moratorium.

No date has been set yet for the final council vote.
